Domain Computer Retrieval Method
Using the Browse List Option : If the browse list is selected for the domain computer source, then Exporter will only be able to export information from computers that are found on the browse list. Since the browse list also contains computer role information, any filtering options can be quickly applied during exporting. Ping options can also be used to help quickly skip computers that fail a ping (see ping options below).
Using the SAM/Active Directory Option : If this option is selected, the entire computer list will be extracted from the SAM or Active Directory (depending upon the domain object type). To improve performance, Exporter will still attempt to merge any information from the browse list into the computer list. If filtering is enabled, then this information can be used to quickly filter out unneeded computers.
To find out more information about this setting, see the Setting the Computer Retrieval Method topic.
Use Netbios name (instead of DNS name) - Select this option to force Exporter Pro to always use the Netbios name (instead of the DNS name) when accessing remote computers. This setting only applies to computers in an Active Directory domain.
Enable Computer Filtering - Enable this option to allow exporting information only from certain types of computers, ie servers, print servers, etc. Use the Set Filter... button to specify the exact types of computers to filter. The computer must be accessible and on the network in order to be filtered.
Skip Computers Listed in File - This option enables any computers listed in the specified file name to be skipped from exporting. It is useful for skipping Samba/Linux or special-purpose computers. List each computer on a separate line in the file; use the computer path as the referenced name of the computer in the file.
Ping Options - Use the Ping Options to improve performance when exporting information from computers. To use this feature, enable the Ping computers before attempting remote access option, and set the other ping options as appropriate for your environment. When this option is enabled, Exporter Pro will first attempt to ping the remote computer before attempting to export information. If the ping fails, the computer will be skipped. However, the computer name will still be written to the computer export file and log file (if enabled).
Show Detailed Progress Messages - Enabling this option will show more detailed progress messages when running the actual export .
File Logging Options - File logging options can be enabled to generate a log on successful or failed export operations.
File Output Options
Write Field Titles Into Output Files - If checked, this option will put the field title names for the output columns in the first row in the output file. This is useful when later imported the output files into spreadsheet or database programs.
Append Output - If checked, this option will append any new output to the existing output file, if the output file already exists. Not setting this option will cause the output file to be overwritten.
Write Data to Output Files in UNICODE Format - Select this option to write data in UNICODE format to all output files. Use this option if a character set is used with extended characters.
Output Field Delimiter - Specify the name of the delimiter to be used to separate field information. By default a tab ( '\t' ) is used. Be careful with using a comma as a delimiter if the output data may also contain a comma.
Secondary Field Delimiter - The secondary field delimiter is used when an output field contains multiple instances of data. Each instance of data for a given output field will be separated by the secondary delimiter.
Output Line Terminator - Specify the characters to be used at the end of each output line.
Export Services - Enable this option to export services and/or device driver information.
Output File Name - Enter the path and name of the output file. If the path is omitted, the file will be placed in the current program directory.
Customize Output Columns - See the Customizing Output Columns section.
Service Type - Select the type of service to export: Services, Devices, or both.
Service State - Select the state of services to export: Running (Active) , Stopped (Inactive), or either.
Only Export Information for Services Listed in this File - Specify the path and name of a text file which contains the names of the services that are to ONLY be exported. Enter each service name on a separate line.
You must use the service name, and not the more common display name used in most Microsoft applications. To get the true service name, run the service export first on a test computer without this option enabled. |
Export Computers - Enable this option to export computers. Computer information is exported from any domain or Active Directory container/organizational unit. The exported information contains a complete listing of all computers defined in the domain, container, or OU, including computers that are offline or no longer used.
Output File Name - Enter the path and name of the output file. If the path is omitted, the file will be placed in the current program directory.
Customize Output Columns - See the Customizing Output Columns section.
Export Shares - Enable this option to export computer share information.
Output File Name - Enter the path and name of the output file. If the path is omitted, the file will be placed in the current program directory.
Customize Output Columns - See the Customizing Output Columns section.
Share Types - Select the type of shares to export. Any combination of disk shares, hidden shares, administration shares, and printer shares can be selected.
The registry exporting options use a special template to control the exporting of registry keys and values. To learn how to configure registry templates, see the Exporting Registry Information topic.
Export Drives - Enable this option to export computer drive information, including disk space.
Output File Name - Enter the path and name of the output file. If the path is omitted, the file will be placed in the current program directory.
Customize Output Columns - See the Customizing Output Columns section.
Drive Space Output Format - Select one of the options on how to display the disk space information, either in bytes, MB only, GB only, or 'mixed' MB/GB depending upon the amount of disk space.
Drive Space Mask - Exporter Pro uses a special mask when retrieving the disk space (available, used, etc.) information. The disk space mask can be customized to support different system configurations when gathering remote disk space information. By default, Exporter Pro uses the administrative shares for getting remote drive space information. The default mask is %s$ if the Drive Space Mask field is left empty. The "%s" parameter in a mask is a placeholder for the drive letter. When Hyena encounters %s in the mask, Hyena queries the remote system for a list of disk drives, and then queries each of the drives using the remainder of the mask for the drive's disk space.
Examples of Drive Space Masks:
If a share exists for every drive, named, for example, C-drive, D-drive, etc., the mask can be set to %s-drive . This setting is not case-sensitive. Furthermore, the directory being shared does NOT have to be at the root of the drive; it can be anywhere on the drive, as long as the convention used for the share name is consistent across all of the drives.
Exporter Pro can check the drives using an alternate naming convention if, for example, the users running Exporter Pro do not have the access rights to retrieve the drive list, or if greater performance is needed to retrieve the disk drive information. To do this, configure a mask that does not use the %s placeholder, and instead explicitly code each drive (share) in the mask. For example, Drive-C;Drive-D;Drive-E . Use this style of mask (separate the individual drive shares with a semicolon) to explicitly tell Exporter Pro which shares to look for. Using this style of drive space mask will force Exporter Pro to skip trying to check the remote system's drive configuration, and will speed up the process of retrieving the drive space information. Note that non-existent shares will be skipped without displaying any error.
%s$;SYS;VOL1;VOL2 - Use this style of mask to have Exporter Pro check for the remote administrative shares, as well as the presence of Netware-style drives, when querying for disk space. The %s$ mask will fail (without any error) on Netware systems, yet the volume shares will display the disk space information correctly.
Export Printers - Enable this option to export printer configuration information.
Output File Name - Enter the path and name of the output file. If the path is omitted, the file will be placed in the current program directory.
Customize Output Columns - See the Customizing Output Columns section.

Export Security Settings for these Objects - Select the type of objects to export security information.
Export Object Owner Information - Enable this option to export the object owner information.
Notes about Security:
Security entries displayed with NO_SD have a missing Security Descriptor, meaning that either the object does not support security settings (such as an admininistrative share) or it does not have any security settings at all. Except for admin shares (C$, ADMIN$, etc.), objects without a security descriptor (NO_SD), will usually be equivalent to Everyone (Full Control) .
Security entries displayed with NO_ACL have an empty security Access Control List, and therefore do not have any access rights assigned, thereby preventing access by everyone (NO ACCESS).
The WMI exporting option uses predefined WMI queries that control the type of information exported. To learn more about WMI exporting options, see Exporting WMI Information.
The Files and Directory exporting option uses predefined templates that control the directory and file information to export. For more information on configuring the file and directory exporting options, see the Exporting File and Directory Information topic.
