Configuring Asset Lifecycle Manager settings

Once you have installed Asset Lifecycle Manager, you are ready to configure the settings that will enable Asset Lifecycle Manager to send and receive workflow e-mail, involve users as workflow participants, and activate workflow actions with other servers, web services, databases, and third-party applications.

You configure Asset Lifecycle Manager settings in the Settings utility. Launch this from Start > Programs > LANDesk Service Management > Configuration Options. You can also launch it from the Design console by clicking Tools > Settings.

Only users with the Access settings permission can display the Settings dialog. This is set from the Settings dialog's Roles tab.

The following information describes the settings on the tabs within the Settings utility.

General

Use this tab to specify basic settings, including the name of your Outgoing SMTP E-mail server, followed by the name you want to be displayed in the "From" field of any Asset Lifecycle Manager-generated e-mail messages (approval actions, notifications, requests, etc.). For more information, see Configuring general settings.

Users/Groups

One of the important advantages of workflows is the ability to automate manual actions by including users and groups as participants in processes. On this tab, you set up connections for these participants by providing the LDAP path and your login credentials for that location, along with any other information required by the system. When you are finished, you can click Test to ensure the connection was successful. For more information, see Configuring users/groups.

Integration servers

You can extend the power of Asset Lifecycle Manager by integrating it with a variety of LANDesk and third-party applications that can accept and perform actions initiated by workflows you create in ALM. For example, you can create workflows that will initiate actions from Avocent Management Infrastructure Explorer, LANDesk Management Suite, LANDesk Service Desk, BMC Remedy Service Desk, and VMware. If you plan to integrate these applications with Asset Lifecycle Manager, you can use the settings on this tab to specify the configuration settings and credentials to enable Asset Lifecycle Manager to access and perform actions in these applications. For more information, see Adding integration server information.

Roles

Use this tab to define roles in Asset Lifecycle Manager. You can apply roles to users or groups. Roles define which users have access to:

For more information, see See "Configuring roles".

Scopes

Use this tab to create scopes for your assets. Scopes determine what assets and supporting resources users can view or modify. Scopes consist of the scope name and the users who are members of that scope. When you create an asset you can assign it one of these scopes. For more information, see Configuring scopes.

Barcode

Use this tab to configure the e-mail address barcode scanners send scanned asset data to.

For more information, see Configuring barcode scanning e-mails and Barcode scanning.

All Assets

Use this tab to change the display columns for the All assets data list in the Web console. For more information, see Configuring display columns in the All assets data list.
