Configuring the database settings

Once you have successfully connected to the Process Manager database, you are ready to configure the settings that will enable Process Manager to send and receive workflow email, involve users as workflow participants, and activate workflow actions with other servers, web services, databases, and third-party applications. The following information describes the settings on the four tabs within the Settings dialog box.

Use this tab to specify the name of your Outgoing SMTP E-mail server, followed by the name you want to be displayed in the "From" field of any Process Manager-generated email messages (approval actions, notifications, requests, etc.). For more information, see "Defining the SMTP e-mail server"

When approvers open Process Manager-generated approval requests to approve or deny a request, by default they can also require conditions for approval. While this allows approvers more flexibility, it can also result in ambiguous or delayed completion of workflow processes. You can disable conditional approvals by checking the box next to Hide approve with conditions option.

Similarly, when task recipients return to a workflow-generated task assignment to mark a task as "completed" or "unable to complete", by default they are also prompted to indicate how long the task took to complete and to add any personal comments. If you do not want task recipients to receive this prompt, you can hide it by checking the box next to Hide manual task estimated completion time and commments.

One of the important advantages of workflows is the ability to automate manual actions by including users and groups as participants in processes. On this tab, you set up connections for these participants by providing the local or LDAP path and your login credentials for that location, along with any other information required by the system. When you are finished, you can click Test to ensure the connection was successful. For more information, see "Configuring users and groups"

LANDesk Management Suite Cores

Use the settings on this tab to provide the credentials for any LANDesk Management Suite core servers you will be accessing in your workflows. You can add additional cores, edit their credentials, or remove them from the list.  The cores you specify here will be selectable from the Attributes window when you include LDMS actions in your workflows. Only the cores defined here will be accessible through the LANDesk actions. For more information, see "Configuring LANDesk cores"

You can extend the power of Process Manager even further by integrating it with a variety of LANDesk and third-party applications that can accept and perform actions initiated by workflows you create in Process Manager.  For example, you can create workflows that will initiate LANDesk Service Desk actions, Avocent DSView® actions, FrontRange HEAT® actions, and BMC® Remedy® Service Desk actions. If you plan to integrate these applications with Process Manager, you can use the settings on this tab to specify the configuration settings and credentials to enable Process Manager to access and perform actions in these applications.

Process Manager includes a 30-day trial license to use the full functionality of the integration modules. If after the trial period you decide to purchase the integration module, you can make the integration permanent by updating your product license. See "Product licenses".
