Applications use the methods of the IDirectSoundinterface to create DirectSound objects and set up the environment. This section is a reference to the methods of this interface.

The interface is obtained by using the DirectSoundCreatefunction.

The methods of the IDirectSoundinterface can be organized into the following groups:

Initialization Initialize
  SetCooperativeLevel
Buffer creation  CreateSoundBuffer
  DuplicateSoundBuffer
Device capabilities  GetCaps
Memory management  Compact
Speaker configuration  Not supported on Windows CE

The IDirectSoundinterface, like all COM interfaces, inherits the IUnknowninterface methods. The IUnknowninterface supports the following three methods:

IUnknown AddRef
  QueryInterface
  Release

The LPDIRECTSOUNDtype is defined as a pointer to the IDirectSoundinterface:

typedef struct IDirectSound *LPDIRECTSOUND;
