Stores the newly assigned primary Domain Name System (DNS) suffix for the computers. The value of this entry will be used as the primary DNS suffix for the computer when you restart Windows 2000.
The primary DNS suffix is used in DNS name registration and DNS name resolution.
This entry stores the value you enter in the Primary DNS suffix of this computer box on the DNS Suffix and NetBIOS Computer Name dialog box in System in Control Panel. When you restart the system, DNS copies the value of the NV Domain entry to the value of Domain and uses the value in that location thereafter.
To change the value of this entry, click System in Control Panel, click the Network Identification tab, click Properties, click More, and then enter a suffix in the Primary DNS suffix of this computer box.

The setting in the Primary DNS suffix of this computer box can be superceded by a policy included in Windows 2000. While the Primary DNS Suffix Group Policy is enabled, the system ignores the local setting. The Primary DNS Suffix policy setting is stored in the value of the NV PrimaryDnsSuffix and PrimaryDnsSuffix entries.
The Primary DNS Suffix Group Policy does not disable or change the appearance of the Primary DNS suffix of this computer dialog box. However, while the policy is enabled, the system does not read the value entered in that box and stored in this entry. The system reads this entry when the Primary DNS Suffix Group Policy is disabled or not configured; that is, when the value of the PrimaryDnsSuffix entry does not appear in the registry.
