NV PrimaryDnsSuffix

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\System\DNSclient

Data type Range Default value
REG_SZ DNS suffix There is no default value for this entry.

Description

Stores the most recent setting of the Primary DNS Suffix Group Policy. When you restart Windows 2000, the system copies this value into the value of PrimaryDnsSuffix.

The primary DNS suffix is used in DNS name registration and DNS name resolution.

Group Policy adds this entry to the registry when you enable the Primary DNS Suffix policy. If you disable the policy or do not configure it, Group Policy deletes this entry from the registry.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Primary DNS Suffix policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\DNS Client). In the text box provided, type the entire primary DNS suffix you want to assign, for example, reskit.com.

Note Image Note

The Primary DNS Suffix policy does not disable the Primary DNS suffix of this computer box that administrators use to change the primary DNS suffix of a computer. If an administrator enters a suffix in the box and restarts Windows 2000, that suffix is stored in the value of Domain, but it is ignored while the policy is in effect.

Tip Image Tip

To change the primary DNS suffix of a computer without setting a policy, click System in Control Panel, click the Network Identification tab, click Properties, click More, and then enter a suffix in the Primary DNS suffix of this computer box.
