Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_DWORD | 0 - 120 seconds | 1 |
Specifies how long a backup domain controller (BDC) waits after receiving a pulse before it responds to the primary domain controller (PDC).
The value of Randomize must be smaller than the value of PulseTimeout1; otherwise the PDC will consider the BDC to be unresponsive.
When calculating an optimal value for Randomize, remember that the time required to replicate a SAM/LSA change to all the BDCs in a domain will be greater than:
[(Randomize/2) * NumberOfBDCsInDomain] / PulseConcurrency
If this entry does not appear in the registry, Net Logon determines optimal values for the server depending upon the domain controller's workload.
Note
For Windows 2000, Net Logon manages replication only when it involves servers running Windows NT 4.0 or earlier. Net Logon for Windows 2000 does not manage replication between two servers running Windows 2000.
Windows 2000 does not add this entry to the registry. You can add it by editing the registry or by using a program that edits the registry.
