HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_SZ | TRUE | FALSE | FALSE |
Stores the computer setting for the domain controller message. (The user setting is stored in the value of ReportDC.)
This entry determines, in part, whether the system displays the following message when it cannot contact the domain controller that stores a user's roaming user profile:
A domain controller for your domain could
not be contacted. You have been logged on using cached account
information. Changes made to your profile since you last logged on
might not be available.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
FALSE (or not in registry) | Does not display the domain controller message. |
TRUE | Displays the domain controller message. |
Display of the domain controller message is managed by two registry entries, ReportDC and ReportControllerMissing. The message is displayed only when both entries are set to their display setting, that is, when ReportDC is set to 1 or it does not appear in the registry, and ReportDomainController appears in the registry with a value of TRUE. By default, the message is not displayed.
Note
While the domain controller message is displayed, other elements of the user interface are disabled, but all processes continue to run normally. If the OK button accompanying this message is not clicked after two minutes, the message box disappears.
The value of this entry must appear in all capital letters. Otherwise, the system ignores the value and behaves as though the value is FALSE.
Windows 2000 does not add this entry to the registry. You can add it by editing the registry or by using a program that edits the registry.
