HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DNS\Parameters
Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_DWORD | Path and name | %SystemRoot%\System32\dns\dns.log |
Specifies the file name and location of the DNS transaction log, known by default as Dns.log.
If you change the value of this entry, DNS creates new log files in the specified directory, but it does not move existing log files to the new location. Also, DNS does not delete or maintain log files in the original location.
DNS reads its registry entries only when it starts. Changes are not effective until you restart the DNS server.
Caution
You must enter a file name, as well as a path, in the value of this entry. If you omit the name, DNS interprets the name of the final directory as a file name. For example, if you enter C:\temp, then DNS creates a file called temp and stores it in the root of the C: drive.
