TimerResolution

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Psched

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0x0 - 0xFFFFFFFF microseconds (System default, typically 10 microseconds)

Description

Determines the smallest unit of time that the Packet Scheduler uses when scheduling packets for transmission. The Packet Scheduler cannot schedule packets for transmission more frequently than permitted by the value of this entry.

This entry stores the setting of the Set timer resolution policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\QoS Packet Scheduler). Group Policy adds this entry to the registry when you enable the Set timer resolution policy.

If you enter a value that is too small for the Hardware Abstraction Layer on your system to support, the system uses the smallest supported interval.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Set timer resolution Group Policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\QoS Packet Scheduler).

Note Image Note

This entry is not included in an Administrative Template (.adm) files provided with Windows 2000. To use this entry, you must write a policy and add it to a new or existing .adm file. For instructions, see Advanced topic: Creating custom .adm files in Windows 2000 Server Help.

This entry takes precedence over a user setting. When this entry appears in the registry, a policy is in effect and the system ignores the value of TimerResolution in the Psched\Parameters subkey.
