Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_DWORD | 0 | 1 | 0 |
Removes the Add programs from Microsoft section of the Add New Programs page. This section includes a button that connects users to the Windows Update Web site. As a result, users cannot connect to Windows Update from Add/Remove Programs.
This entry stores the setting of the Hide the "Add programs from Microsoft" option Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
0 | The policy is disabled or not configured. The Add programs from Microsoft section is displayed. |
1 | The policy is enabled. The Add programs from Microsoft section is removed. |
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Hide the "Add programs from Microsoft" option policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Add/Remove Programs).
Note
If the NoAddPage entry is set to 1, then this entry is ignored.
This entry does not prevent users from using other tools and methods to connect to Windows Update.
The Disable and remove links to Windows Update policy (NoWindowsUpdate) prevents users from connecting to Windows Update from Windows 2000. If the value of NoWindowsUpdate is 1, and users click the Windows Update button in Add/Remove Programs, the system displays a message explaining that the action is prevented by a policy.
