Description

Enables and disables the Location Tracking feature of Windows 2000 printers.

This entry stores the setting of the Pre-populate printer search location text Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the Pre-populate printer search location text policy. If you disable the policy, Group Policy sets the value to 0. If you set the policy to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value Meaning
(Not in registry) The policy is not configured. Location Tracking is disabled.
0 The policy is disabled. Location Tracking is disabled.
1 The policy is enabled. Location tracking is enabled.

When location tracking is enabled, a Browse button appears beside the Location field in the Find Printers dialog box. The Browse button also appears on the General tab of the Properties dialog box for a printer. It lets users browse for printers by location without their having to know the precise location (or location naming scheme).

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Pre-populate printer search location text policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Printers).
