PruningInterval

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0x0 - 0xFFFFFFFF minutes 0x1E0 (480 minutes = 8 hours)

Description

Specifies how often the pruning service on a domain controller contacts computers to verify that their printers are operational.

This entry stores the setting of the Directory pruning interval Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry when you enable the Directory pruning interval policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 480.

The pruning service periodically contacts computers that have published printers. If a computer does not respond to the contact message (optionally, after repeated attempts), the pruning service prunes (deletes from Active Directory) printer objects the computer has published.

By default, the pruning service contacts computers every eight hours and allows two repeated contact attempts before deleting printers from Active Directory. You can use this entry to change the interval between contact attempts. To change the number of attempts, use the Directory pruning retry policy (PruningRetries).

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Directory pruning interval policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Printers).
