SfcQuota

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Windows File Protection

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0x0 - 0xFFFFFFFE MB | 0xFFFFFFFF Windows 2000 Professional: 0x32 (50 MB)
Windows 2000 Server: 0xFFFFFFFF (unlimited)

Description

Specifies the maximum amount of disk space that can be used for the Windows File Protection file cache.

Windows File Protection saves verified versions of files in its cache on the local hard drive for later use. It adds protected files to the cache until the cache content reaches the quota. If the quota is greater than 50 MB, WFP adds other important Windows 2000 files to the cache until the cache size reaches the quota.

This entry stores the setting of the Limit Windows File Protection cache size Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry when you enable the Limit Windows File Protection cache size policy. If you disable this policy or set it to not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system uses the default values.

Value Meaning
(Not in registry) The policy is disabled or not configured. The default value is set to 50 MB on Windows 2000 Professional and is unlimited on Windows 2000 Server.
1 - 0xFFFFFFFE The policy is enabled and set to a value less than 4294967295. Specifies the size of the Windows File Protection cache on the local hard drive.
0xFFFFFFFF The policy is enabled and set to 4294967295. The cache size is not limited. Save all cache all protected system files on the local drive.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Limit Windows File Protection cache size policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Windows File Protection).

Note Image Note

This entry takes precedence over a user setting. While the Limit Windows File Protection cache size policy is enabled (and this entry appears in the registry), the system ignores the value of SfcQuota in the Winlogon subkey.
