REG_DWORD | 0 | 1 | 0 |
Prevents the Getting Started with Windows 2000 welcome screen in Windows 2000 Professional from being displayed each time a user logs on. Users can still display the welcome screen by selecting it from the Start menu or by typing Welcome in the Run dialog box.
This entry stores the setting of the Don't display welcome screen at logon Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you configure the Don't display welcome screen at logon policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
0 | The policy is disabled or not configured. Getting Started with Windows 2000 appear in Windows 2000 Professional each time a user logs on. |
1 | The policy is enabled. Getting Started with Windows 2000 is not displayed automatically, although users can display it on demand. |
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Don't display welcome screen at logon policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System).
Note
This entry takes precedence over a user setting. While the Don't display welcome screen at logon policy is enabled (the value of this entry is 1), the system ignores the setting of the Show this screen at startup check box on the welcome screen and the value of Show, which stores the setting.
This policy applies only to Windows 2000 Professional. It does not affect the Configure Your Server on a Windows 2000 Server screen on Windows 2000 Server.
This policy appears in the Computer Configuration and User Configuration folders. If both policies are configured, the setting in Computer Configuration takes precedence over the setting in User Configuration.
Tip
To display the Welcome screen in Windows 2000 Professional, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Getting Started. To suppress the welcome screen without setting a policy, clear the Show this screen at startup check box on the welcome screen.
