The Windows subkey contains entries that store Group Policy settings for components of Windows 2000. The subkeys and entries in the Windows subkey are written and maintained by Group Policy, and are read and interpreted by the component that implements them.
The SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows subkey in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE stores entries related to policies that apply to all users of this computer. There is also a Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows subkey in HKEY_CURRENT_USER that stores policy-related entries that are configured separately for each user.
