SlowLinkDetectEnabled

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0 | 1 1

Description

Determines whether the system detects slow connections between this computer and remote servers that store roaming user profiles.

Value Meaning
0 The system does not measure the time it takes for a server bearing a user's profile to respond. Users must wait for their server-based profile to become available.
1 The system times the server's response to a request for a user's profile. If the server does not respond before the value of SlowLinkTimeOut expires, the system offers users the option of using a version of their user profile saved on this computer or waiting for the server-based profile.

This entry, and related entries in this subkey, together describe a strategy for managing user profiles residing on remote servers. In particular, they tell the system how to respond when a remote profile is slow to load.

Consider setting this value to 0 if server-based profiles are desired, even if downloading the profile over WAN or dialup networking links causes logon delays.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Automatically detect slow network connections policy (Computer Settings\Software Policies\Windows NT User Profiles).

Note Image Note

This entry can be superceded by a policy included in Windows 2000. While the Do not detect slow network connections Group Policy is enabled, the system ignores this entry. The Do not detect slow network connections setting is stored in the value of SlowLinkDetectEnabled.

Windows 2000 does not add this entry to the registry. You can add it by editing the registry or by using a program that edits the registry.
