Specifies that only the area of memory used by the operating system kernel is copied to the recovery log when the system stops abnormally.
The kernel of the system manages its most basic functions, such as allocating processor time and handling hardware interrupts.
The location of the recovery log is stored in the value of DumpFile. By default, it is Systemroot\MEMORY.DMP.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
0 | The entire contents of system memory is copied to the recovery log. This setting provides the most data for your investigation of the abnormal stop. |
1 | Only the kernel memory is copied to the recovery log. This setting provides less data, but it is quicker and produces smaller recovery log files. |
To change the value of this entry, use System in Control Panel. Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Startup and Recovery button. This value is set to 1 when the Write kernel information only box is checked.
To make changes to this value effective, you must restart Windows 2000.
Note
To change the value of this entry, you must be an administrator of the computer.
Windows 2000 adds this value to the registry when you use System in Control Panel to change the default value.
