The primary setup required for User Name Mapping is the setting up of maps. You can create a simple map that associates Windows users with identically named UNIX users listed in passwd and group files copied from a PCNFS server or in Network Information Services (NIS) maps. You can also create advanced maps that associate Windows and UNIX users with different user names. For information about how to set up maps, see To configure User Name Mapping.
Note that User Name Mapping supports only passwd and group files; support for shadow files is not provided.
When setting up User Name Mapping, you can also set the refresh interval, which controls how often User Name Mapping refreshes its UNIX passwd and group information. For more information about setting the refresh interval, see To set the refresh interval for maps.
