About the Getting Started Wizard

The Getting Started Wizard guides you through the initial NetBackup configuration process.

Configuring a master server or media server is a similar process. However, Symantec recommends that the master server be configured before the media server. Configuring the master server first ensures that the master server properly administers the media server.

The Getting Started Wizard is comprised of the following wizards:

Device Configuration Wizard

Helps to define robots and drives available to NetBackup on available storage devices

Volume Configuration Wizard

Use to configure media where data can be stored.

Catalog Backup Wizard

Use to configure a NetBackup catalog backup. A catalog backup is mandatory to restore files and directories from a backup.

Backup Policy Wizard

Use to create a backup policy.

A backup policy specifies the following:

  • The clients to be backed up

  • When the clients are to be backed up

  • Which client files to be backed up

These wizards can also be run individually outside of the Getting Started Wizard as needed. Some NetBackup wizards that are not part of the Getting Started Wizard.
