Symantec LiveState Packages

A Symantec LiveState package is a collection of files and software designed to carry out a particular task or install and configure a particular application on a managed computer.

All the information needed by the Symantec LiveState Configuration Server to deploy a package on a managed computer is contained within the package. A package can perform almost any installation or configuration task on a computer. For example, flash a BIOS, load an operating system, install an application, install print drivers, or run a virus scan after every boot.

Symantec LiveState Delivery is delivered with a set of packages that are automatically added to the Package Depot at the time of installation and they appear in the list of packages in Command Center. Symantec LiveState Delivery packages are compressed-file archives called PAK files.

When you create new packages or download packages from the Symantec Web site, you must use Command Center to import these additional packages into the system.

A package is categorized by the kind of task it is designed to carry out. This is referred to as the package type. The package type determines which files are required by the package, and the instructions and information that must be specified in those files.
