Booting over the Network

When booting over the network, a RAM disk is built up in the main memory of the computer. All files required for booting are copied from the configuration server and package depot over the network to the RAM disk.

Options for behavior when booting over the network are set in the Computer Properties dialog box's Boot and Security Tab

You may set the parameters for the network boot, in particular the memory area and the size of the RAM disk.

To set properties for the network boot:

  1. In the Scope pane, select a computer name item.

  2. Right-click the computer name item and choose Edit Computer Properties.

  3. In the Boot and Security tab, set the Netboot check box.

  4. Select the Debug mode check box to display additional debugging during the network boot procedure on the computer.

  5. In the Remaining capacity in KB of the RAM disk list box, specify a value between 1 and 255.

This value defines the surplus capacity of the RAM disk in KB which is suitable for the storage of additional files such as temporary status files such as LAN Manager.

  1. In the Boot Priority list box, select a value of 0 through 4.

Value

Description

0

The highest priority that results in no delays and no network load control

The CCM Pre-OS Agent uses this setting to calculate the file copy delay and block copy delay when building the RAM disk on the computer.

The CCM Windows Agent uses this setting to calculate the file copy delay and the action time period for job actions that the Windows Agent manages for the computer.

  1. Click OK to save the boot properties information.

CCM enters the settings in the configuration files of the selected computer.
