Moving Computers from Server to Server

To move a computer from one server to another:

Assign the CCM Move Workstation Config File (mvwkst1m.054) package to the computer on the source server you want to move.

You may have added this package to the CCM Package Depot during the installation of CCM. If not, then use the Package Import Tool to copy this package from the CCM 5.4 CD to the CCM source server.

In the Set Parameters dialog box, set the CCM Server name and the CCM Server-IP for the target server.

The CCM Server-IP parameter field appears when you specify the CCM Server and click OK.

WARNING: Computer data may be lost if you fail to set the target server name and IP address here.

Connect the target server.
In the Scope pane, expand the source server name to display the computers in the Result pane.
In the Result pane, select the computers you want to move and drag them to the target server item in the Scope pane.
In the Move Computers dialog box that lists the computers to be moved, click OK.
The Moving Computers CCM Activity window opens, displaying the status of the computers during the various stages of the move process.
If the computer in Push-Only mode, then the Windows Agent must be manually refreshed on the computer.

Note: You can manually refresh the Windows Agent by rebooting the computer, or clicking Refresh in the Windows Agent dialog box on the computer.

Manually copy any information you want to keep from the computer's original HOME directory to its new HOME directory on the target server.

Moving Computers from Server to Server

There may be times when you want to move a computer from one CCM 5.4 server to another.

When you do this, CCM deletes the selected computers from the source server and integrates them on the target server. The computer configuration, including packages and hardware jobs, are also integrated on the target server.

The packages that are installed on the computers of the source server, must reside on the target server. If one or more packages is not on the target server, the computer cannot be moved.

To move a computer from a CCM 5.1 server to a CCM 5.4 server, you must use Command Center V1.1 that was shipped with CCM 5.1. More information.....

WARNING: Failure to follow the specific tasks to move a computer may result in the irreversible loss of computer data from CCM. Be sure that all tasks have been completed, and have a status of DONE before attempting to move a computer.
