Deploy Packages from One Server to Computers on a Different Server

Using drag and drop, you can deploy one or more packages to a single computer or a computer group on a different server. The packages you deploy from the source server must also exist on the target server.

Note: CCM checks that packages with the same Package Name, Version, and Package ID also exist on the target server. Then CCM actually assigns the packages to computers from the target server, not the source server. It does not verify that the packages’ config.swp files are identical on both the source and target servers. So the packages you are selecting to assign from the source server may not be identical to the packages that are assigned from the target server.

Before you begin deploying packages, you should adjust the All CCM Activities and Package Deployment settings in the CCM Command Center Properties - CCM Activities Tab dialog box. These settings, where possible, control the automatic execution of package deployment.

Tip: You can monitor the deployment process in a new window. Right-click the Scope pane's CCM Activities item and choose New Window from Here. Tile the new window and the main window, and monitor the activity.

To deploy packages from one server to computers on a different server:

  1. In the source server's Scope pane, expand the Packages item.

Tip: You can open a secondary window so you can drag packages from it to a computer group in the main window. In the Scope pane, right-click the Packages item and choose New Window from Here.

  1. On the Source server, click the <All Packages> item or a package type item to display packages.

  1. In the target server's Scope pane, expand the Computers item, then expand the <All Computers> item or a computer group item to display computers.

  1. In the source server's Result pane (of either the main window or the secondary Packages window), select the packages you want to deploy.

  2. Drag the packages to a single computer or computer group item on the target server.

The Assign Packages dialog box opens, listing only those packages that exist on the target server. Check to see that all of the packages you want to deploy are listed.

  1. In the Assign Packages dialog box, click OK or OK Coop.

Click

To...

OK

Start a Managing Package Jobs CCM Activity and installs or updates the packages on the specified computer or computer group.

Note: If you are installing a new package on an existing Cooperative Mode computer you can click OK. CCM installs the package on the Cooperative Mode computer.

OK Coop

Enters this information into the computer configuration file without actually installing the packages.

OK Coop is enabled only if you have selected a Cooperative Mode computer.

  1. If CCM detects that a dependent package is required, the Add Required Packages dialog box opens. Select the package to be deployed and click Install.

  2. If CCM detects that the package you want to install excludes packages already installed or queued for installation, a Confirmation dialog box opens listing the name of the conflicting package that must be deleted before this new package can be installed. Click OK to delete the conflicting package.

  3. If CCM detects that installed packages can be updated, the Update Packages dialog box opens. Select the packages to be updated and click Replace.

  4. After the original package and all its required packages have been set to install, the Manage Packages: Choose Drive and Date dialog box opens. Make any desired entries and click OK.

Note: You cannot set a date for installation for System packages.

  1. The Set Parameters dialog box opens so you can set the parameter values. Click the tab for each package, make the desired parameter value selections, and click OK.

Note: If you fail to set a required parameter, CCM will prompt you with an error message and automatically scroll to the next required parameter value.
