Creating a simulated tape library

You can create a simulated tape library on a hard disk or any mounted volume on the Remote Media Agent.

The simulated tape library tapes default to 100 GB.

To create a simulated tape library

  1. To stop the BERemote services, type the following command at the Linux server:

    /etc/init.d/VRTSralus.init stop

  2. To navigate to the Tape Library Simulator Utility, type the following command at the Remote Media Agent:

    cd /opt/VRTSralus/bin

  3. To start the utility, type the following command:

    ./mktls

  4. Select Create a new simulated tape library, and then press Enter.

  5. Enter the following information:

    Directory Path

    Type the path of the directory for the simulated tape library. You can enter up to 512 characters. If the path does not exist, the Tape Library Simulator Utility creates it.

    Number of Slots

    Select the number of slots for this simulated tape library. The number of slots can range from 1 to 50. The default number is 20.

  6. Press Enter.

  7. To exit the utility, type Q.

  8. To restart BERemote services, type the following command:

    /etc/init.d/VRTSralus.init start
