This section summarizes the changes to ZENworks 7 Asset
Management Support Pack 1. For information about bugs fixed in
Support Pack 1, see TID 10097778 in the Novell
Support Knowledgebase.
The following Asset Management enhancements have been added.
1.2.1.1 New Reseller Connector
A CompuCom reseller connector has been added. CompuCom now makes
a report available (Software Compliance Report) that can be used to
import purchase records directly into ZENworks Asset Management
Software Compliance. The connector uses the standard ZENworks Asset
Management purchase record import file format.
1.2.1.2 Windows Terminal Server Usage
Software usage can now be monitored and reported for
applications run through Windows Terminal Server 2000 and 2003.
These applications appear in existing application Usage reports.
You can view Terminal Server usage activity by user, by machine,
and by product. What you see depends on the context you use to view
the usage activity:
When viewing usage by user, both locally-run and server
application usage are tracked and attributed to the user.
When viewing usage by machine, usage of applications run
through the Terminal Server is attributed to the machine on which
the Terminal Server is running.
When viewing usage by product, total application usage is
reported. Usage of applications run from a Terminal Server, as well
as usage of applications run from the local machine are included in
reported application usage.
1.2.2 Enhancements to Asset Inventory
The following Asset Inventory enhancements have been added.
1.2.2.1 Enhanced Processor Recognition and
Reporting
The following recognition enhancements have been made in Support
Pack 1:
Recognition of 64-bit processors - Machines with 64-bit
processors are recognized, classified, and reported. A new field,
Is64Bit, appears in the processor attributes to indicate
when it is a 64-bit processor.
Recognition of 64-bit operating systems - Machines with
64-bit operating systems are recognized and reported. The string
"x64" is added to the Windows Operating System name when a 64-bit
edition is discovered.
Recognition of multi-core processors - Machines with
multiple processor cores are recognized and reported. A new field,
core count, appears in the processor attributes to indicate
the number of cores on the processor.
Recognition of multi-processor machines - Machines with
more than one precessor are recognized and reported. A separate
processor entry, including its attributes, appears for each
processor.
Recognition of hyper-threaded processors – Machines with
hyper-threaded processors are recognized and reported. A new field,
IsHyperThreaded, appears in the processor attributes.
New custom report attributes - Three new custom report
columns have been added to the custom reports available under
"Hardware Components": Is64bit, IsHyperAThreaded and
core count.
The Network Discovery Engine now discovers these products:
Discovery of all Novell Linux platforms - All Novell
Linux platforms are discovered and differentiated, including SUSE
Linux Enterprise Server, Open Enterprise Server, Novell Linux
Desktop, and SUSE.
Discovery of Red Hat Linux platforms - All Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 3.x and 4.x platforms are discovered and
differentiated.
Note: Certain Linux platforms are discovered and
differentiated exclusively with SNMP. By default, these platforms
are not configured to allow discovery by the Network Discovery
Engine. Before these platforms can be differentiated, each machine
must have SNMP enabled and configured correctly. For information on
configuring a Linux machine for discovery by the Network Discovery
Engine, see TID #10100611.
1.2.2.3 Web Console Reporting
Enhancements
The following enhancements have been added for reporting:
Additional Info field available in Custom Reports - An
additional field, the Additional Software Info field,
is available from the Custom Report engine.
New Web Console Report - A new report, entitled
Printer Supply Levels has been added to the Network
Discovery Web Console reports. It shows usage and status of
consumables such as paper and toner.
Note: By default, Software Compliance reports run
automatically with the default filter options when you call them
from the Software Compliance menu. If you have large amounts of
data, there may be a significant delay before the report appears.
You can disable this feature, so that the report does not run until
you set up a filter and click Search. For more
information see TID #10100612.
1.2.2.4 New Virtual Machines Supported for
Inventory
The following platforms can now be scanned by the ZENworks Asset
Management client:

ZENworks 7 Asset Management now supports Microsoft SQL Server
2005.
The following is a list of new features and enhancements that
have been incorporated into the various components of the ZENworks
7 Asset Management release. Please refer to the online help for
further details about these enhancements.
2.1 General Enhancements
2.1.1 Web Console Usability and
Security
Column headers on Web Console reports and pages remain at the
top of the screen when scrolling down the page.
Web Console reports can be exported to PDF and CSV format.
Graphs are rendered directly in PDF to facilitate printing and
sharing. Note: Adobe SVG is no longer required to display graphical
reports
Web Console reports can be grouped and viewed by OS
platform
(Examples: Windows* Workstations, Windows Servers, Mac*)
Folder-level security has been added to control which specific
users have access to standard and custom reports.
Custom report definitions can be edited only by the individual
who created the report definition.
2.1.2 Additional Client Platform
Support
Mac OS X (10.2.4 or newer)
UNIX* and Linux* (new for ZENworks Asset Management 3.3
customers)
1 Added in a software update to TS.Census 3.2,
and subsequently added to ZENworks 7 Asset Management.
2.1.3 Product Category and Subcategory
Updated With Knowledgebase
Product Categories and Subcategories are now updated when you
update the Novell Product Knowledgebase (using the Product
Recognition Update command, available from the Manager's
Administration menu.)
Note: You can use the Manager to change a product's category
and subcategory. However, any change make might be overwritten when
your Product Knowledgebase is updated.
2.1.4 Rules for Creating
Passwords
You can now define rules that control whether a password is
allowed or not. You can:
Specify a required password length
Require that the password contain both alphabetic and numeric
characters
Require that the password contain both uppercase and lowercase
characters
Require that the password be changed after a specified number
of days
Disallow passwords that are the same as the username
Deactivate unused accounts after a specified number of
days
You change the rules by clicking Password Rules in
the Manage ZENworks Asset Management Users window, available from
the Administration menu. These rules apply when creating users in
either the Web Console or the Manager.
If you change the password rules, the next time the user logs
in, a message appears, asking the user to create a new password.
When the user creates the new password, it is checked against the
rules, and the user must re-enter the password until it meets the
requirements specified by the rules.
2.1.5 Upgraded Versions of Java* and
Tomcat*
New versions of Java 2 SDK and Apache Tomcat Server are
installed with ZENworks 7 Asset Management:
Java 2 SDK version 1.3.1.01 is replaced by version
1.4.2.07.
Tomcat version 4.0.4 is replaced by version 5.0.28
Note:
When you upgrade to the new version, the Java and Tomcat
versions remain the same, in case you have other applications which
depend on the older versions. For detailed instructions for
upgrading your Java and Tomcat versions, see
TID #10099062, "Upgrading to Tomcat 5 and JDK 1.4.2 for use with
ZAM 7".

2.2.5 Scanning Virtual
Machines
Asset Inventory recognizes installations of virtual machine
software such as VMWare and Virtual PC. Two levels of inventory
recognition are available:
Recognition and reporting of Virtual Machines - During
the normal workstation inventory process, ZENworks Asset Management
recognizes various virtual machine applications and several
attributes of the underlying virtual machines (Virtual Machine Name
and Operating System).
Software Inventory and Usage - You can deploy ZENworks
Asset Management client software to each virtual machine and
perform a complete software inventory. You can also monitor
software usage on the virtual machine if you are licensed for full
ZENworks Asset Management.
2.2.6 New Platform Field
A new field has been added to a machine's platform information.
When you upgrade ZENworks Asset Management, the platform field for
each machine is populated with a value of "Generic Workstation".
Once the machine has been scanned during the regular inventory
cycle, the field is properly populated. For new installations, the
field is populated correctly during the first scan.
2.3 Software Compliance and Software
Usage
Software Compliance and Software Usage are included in the full
version of ZENworks Asset Management.
2.3.1 Software Spectrum
Connector
A Reseller Connector has been added to Software Compliance to
allow direct import of Software Spectrum license purchase data.
2.3.2 Integration of Mac Software
Inventory
Software inventory collected from Macs is automatically
included in the list of discovered products in Software Compliance
so that it can be reconciled to licensing information.
A platform attribute has been added to License Records to
specify which platforms are represented by the license.
2.3.3 New Software Compliance
Reports
The following new reports are available:
Suite/Suite Component Report - Shows a complete
breakdown of suites along with components installed with the suites
and as stand-alone applications.

3.3.4 Supported Browsers
When using the Web Console, the following browsers are
supported:
If you have configured login scripts to run the collection
client setup.exe from the File Store, edit your login scripts so
that setup.exe does not run while you are upgrading ZENworks Asset
Management applications.
If you are running ZENworks Handheld Management using the
default MSDE installation, you cannot run the Standalone Deployment
of ZENworks Asset Management on the same server.
5.3 Upgrading Tomcat and
Java
When you upgrade to the new version, the Java and Tomcat
versions remain the same, in case you have other applications which
depend on the older versions. For detailed instructions for
upgrading your Java and Tomcat versions, see
TID #10099062, "Upgrading to Tomcat 5 and JDK 1.4.2 for use with
ZAM 7".
The following ZENworks Asset Management capabilities included
for Windows Inventory are not available for Macs or UNIX/Linux:
Software Usage
Local Products
Client install via the Remote Client Install Utility
Collection Editor
Collection Option Set
Software Category/Subcategory
Hotfix discovery
Antivirus definition and engine discovery
Note: The Microsoft Office for Mac suite is recognized by
ZENworks Asset Management, and appears along with its components in
both the Asset Inventory and Software Compliance reports. The
suite/component relationship is not shown, however. Because of
this, Microsoft Office for Mac does not appear in the new
Suite/Component and Standalone Component reports, available from
the Software Compliance tab's Reports menu.
6.2 Virtual Machine Inventory
The presence of virtual machines could affect the accuracy of
Usage reports.
The hardware reported by virtual machines is virtual. Certain
hardware inventory attributes collected from virtual machines might
differ from the actual hardware on the machine. This could affect
the accuracy of hardware inventory reports.
Note: Virtual Machine inventory as described in the New
Features and Enhancements section is only available for
Windows.
6.3 Inventory Database
ZENworks Asset Management does not support Microsoft SQL Server
7.0 installations with the case-sensitive sorting option enabled.
(By default, this option is off.)
6.4 File Store
Because of conflicts between NT and Novell security, the File
Store cannot be installed on a system that uses NetWare® resources
if the Collection or Task Server is on Windows 2000. To resolve
this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain
the fix relating to technical article Q266066.
6.5 Manager
Because the same data can be accessed from multiple ZENworks
Asset Management Managers, not all changes are immediately visible
to all Managers. Therefore, before making any edits to the data, it
is advisable to refresh the screen.
When the Microsoft 2000 Office suite is installed from only the
installation CD 2 and 3, the applications in this suite are not
recognized as being part of a suite. Also, ZENworks Asset
Management cannot recognize suites installed on an inactive
operating system in dual-boot systems.
6.6 Reports and Queries
Reports in the Web Console assume an ODBC data source named
"ZENworks Asset Management Reports". If you install the Web Console
to use the TSCensusDemo database, you must edit the data source in
your ODBC Administrator in order to log in to the TSCensusDT
database.
In a Report or Query filter you cannot use 12:00 AM as the
value for FNI File Date field with the operator of "=".(equals). Using this value will cause unexpected
results.
If you are viewing reports so that they can be exported from
within Crystal Reports*, you should have a default printer defined
for your workstation. If you do not have a default printer defined,
Crystal Reports cannot determine the page length, and inserts a
page break after each line in the exported report.
6.7 Client Applications
If cclient.exe is running on a Windows 95 or 98 computer that
is not connected to the network, a "program not responding" message
appears when you try to shut down or restart the computer.
If an unusually large number of software applications are
installed on a computer, or if virus detection software is running
in "active scan" mode, Collector performance decreases
significantly during a software scan.
6.8 Task Server
If your Task Server is installed on a computer running Windows
2000, and you use Novell Netware, you are prompted for Novell login
information when a print task is started. Scheduled print jobs
cannot be run unless a user provides the login information when the
task is run. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product
Support Services to obtain the fix relating to technical article
Q266066.
6.9 Software Usage Monitor
The Software Usage Monitor cannot monitor the use of
applications that run within a browser.
Software file information and its related usage information is
refreshed each time workstations are re-scanned, so the report data
reflects only usage since the last time workstations were
scanned.
The Software Usage Monitor cannot monitor sub-processes (or
processes that are started by a primary process.)
The following limitations exist in the release relative to
server software usage:
Usage information is refreshed each time workstations are
re-scanned, so the report data reflects only usage since the last
time workstations were scanned.
Server software usage is attributed to a product based on its
file properties; this information is not reconciled to the ZENworks
Asset Management Knowledgebase.
The following documentation is provided with ZENworks 7 Asset
Management:
Evaluation Guide – provides a quick,
hands-on introduction to ZENworks Asset Management. This is a new
document tailored to the ZENworks Asset Management Standalone
Deployment evaluation experience.
Installation Guide – provides
comprehensive, step-by-step procedures for Standalone and
Enterprise Deployment. The Installation Guide takes the
place of the Getting Started Guide. A pre-installation
worksheet has been added to the Installation Guide.
User’s Guide – provides a complete
product reference and covers all aspects of product administration
and use. This guide reflects the help systems of both the ZENworks
Asset Management Manager and the Web Console. Previous versions of
the User’s Guide only covered ZENworks Asset Management Manager
Functionality.
These documents are made available during the ZENworks Asset
Management installation process and are located on the CD image (in
the Docs directory) and within the downloaded evaluation zip
file.
These documents are also available at the ZENworks
7 documentation Web site. The documentation site includes both PDF and
HTML versions of the Evaluation, Installation and User
documentation. The documentation is updated regularly to
incorporate newly discovered information.
