This section describes the DirectShow architecture at a level of detail appropriate to filter development. Before reading the following topics, you should read the topics in Getting Started with DirectShowand DirectShow Architecture. If you are writing a DirectShow application but not developing any filters, you can probably safely skip these topics, or else skim through them.
