Description

Determines which domain controller the Group Policy snap-in uses.

This entry stores the setting of the Group Policy domain controller selection Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry when you enable the Group Policy domain controller selection policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 1.

Value Meaning
1 (or not in registry) Use the Primary Domain Controller. The Group Policy snap-in reads and writes changes to the domain controller designated as the PDC Operations Master for the domain.
2 Inherit from the Active Directory Snap-ins. The Group Policy snap-in reads and writes changes to the domain controller that Active Directory Users and Computers or Active Directory Sites and Services snap-ins use.
3 Use any available domain controller. The Group Policy snap-in can read and write changes to any available domain controller.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Group Policy domain controller selection policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy).

Tip Image Tip

To change the PDC Operations Master for a domain, in Active Directory Users and Computers, right-click a domain, and then click Operations Masters.
