<Calendar-ID>

HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Control Panel\International\Calendars\TwoDigitYearMax

Data type Range Default value
REG_SZ 99 - 9999 2029 (for Gregorian calendars)

Description

Determines how programs interpret two-digit years, and prevents users from changing the setting.

This entry specifies the last year in a 100-year range. The system interprets any two-digit year as being in the range ending with the year specified by this entry.

For example, if the value of this entry is 2550, the system assumes that all two-digit years it encounters fall within the years 2451 to 2550. If the system encounters a two-digit date of 30, it interprets the date as being 2530. If the two-digit date is 60, the system interprets the date as 2460.

When this entry appears in the registry, the system disables the When a two-digit year is entered, interpret it as a year between spin box in the Calendar section of the Date tab in Regional Options in Control Panel. As a result, users cannot change the interpretation of two-digit years while this policy is in effect.

Group Policy uses this entry for the Century interpretation for Year 2000 Group Policy setting. Group Policy adds an entry named 1 (for calendar-ID 1) to the TwoDigitYearMax subkey when you enable the Century interpretation for Year 2000 policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 2029.

The Century interpretation for Year 2000 policy only applies to localized Gregorian calendars (Calendar-ID 1). Also, because it is designed for the 21st century, it limits the values you can enter to a range of 2001 - 2099. However, you can edit the System.adm file or create a custom .adm file to add an entry for any Windows 2000 calendar type. Two-digit year interpretation is relevant to all calendar types except for the Era: Year of the Emperor (Japan) calendar (Type 3) and the Era: Year of Taiwan calendar (Type 4).

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Century interpretation for Year 2000 policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System).

Note Image Note

This entry applies only to calendars whose calendar-ID matches the name of this entry.

Regional Options in Control Panel coordinates all Gregorian calendars, such that changes to any type of Gregorian calendar are applied to all other types of Gregorian calendars. However, Group Policy changes the value only of the localized Gregorian calendar. To maintain coordinated Gregorian calendars, you must edit System.adm or create a customized .adm file.

This entry only affects the programs that use the Windows feature to interpret two-digit years. If a program does not interpret two-digit years correctly, consult the documentation or manufacturer of the program.

This entry overrides a user setting. When this entry appears in the registry, the system disables the When a two-digit year is entered, interpret it as a year between spin box in the Calendar section of the Date tab and ignores the entry for this calendar type in HKCU\Control Panel\International\Calendars\TwoDigitYearMax, which stores the option setting.
