ProfileErrorAction

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0 | 1 0

Description

Logs a user off automatically when the system cannot load the user's roaming user profile. This entry is used when the system cannot find the roaming user profile or the profile contains errors which prevent it from loading correctly.

This entry stores the setting of the Log users off when roaming profile fails Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the Log users off when roaming profile fails policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value Meaning
0 Disabled. When the roaming profile fails to load, the system loads a local copy of the roaming user profile. If a local copy is not available, the system loads the default user profile (stored in Systemroot\Documents and Settings\Default User).
1 Enabled. When the roaming profile fails to load, the system logs the user off.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Log users off when roaming profile fails policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon).
