Max Retries

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PswdSync

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0x0 - 0xFFFFFFFF 3

Description

Determines the maximum number of times the Password Synchronization Service repeats an attempt to update a password.

When an update attempt fails, the Password Synchronization Service repeats the update attempt (at a rate determined by the value of Update Retry Interval) until an attempt is successful or the number of attempts reaches the value of this entry.

When the number of unsuccessful attempts reaches this value, the Password Synchronization Service stops attempting to update the password data and records the following error (#2004) in the System Log in Event Viewer. Password Propagation failed for user <user-name> on Domain <domain-name>.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use the Password Synchronization Administrator. Do not edit the registry.

Note Image Note

This entry can appear in the PswdSync subkey and in any <pod-name> subkey. When it appears in PswdSync, its value applies to all pods. When it appears in a <pod-name> subkey, its value applies only to that pod. When the entry appears in both subkeys, the value in the <pod-name> subkey takes precedence over the same value in the PswdSync subkey when configuring the named pod.

This entry appears in the registry when you use the Password Synchronization Administrator to configure a UNIX pod.
