To edit standard and nonstandard map entries using the command line

At a command prompt, do one of the following:

To add a user to a passwd map, type:
nismap add –e "passwdEntry" –a nisDomain
passwd
To modify a user in a passwd map, type:
nismap mod –e "passwdEntry" –k username
–a nisDomain passwd
To delete a user from a passwd map, type:
nismap del –k username –a nisDomain
passwd
To add a group to a group map, type:
nismap add –e "groupEntry" –a nisDomain
group
To modify a user from group map, type:
nismap mod –e "groupEntry" –k groupName
–a nisDomain group
To delete a user from group map, type:
nismap del –k groupName –a nisDomain
group

Argument	Description
passwdEntry	An entry from the passwd map.
nisDomain	The Network Information Service (NIS) domain.
username	The name of the user.
groupEntry	An entry from the group map.
groupName	The name of the group to which the user belongs.

Notes

To view the complete syntax for this command, at a command prompt, type:
nismap /?
When you use nismap to delete a user, group, or host object, only the UNIX attributes of the object are deleted. To delete the object from Active Directory, use the Active Directory administration tools.
