Checkpoints

Any potential pitfalls that you might encounter during upgrade should by now be pretty obvious. Your first and best line of defense is to run the DRW before attempting an upgrade. The tests it performs are designed to point out those SMS 2.0 site issues that are likely to, and that will, cause you problems. In addition, I can't stress enough the importance of having performed a complete backup of the SMS 2.0 site before you upgrade, as well as completely documenting your site's configuration settings, client agent settings, collections, package properties, and so on.

Aside from that, I strongly recommend that you read the SMS 2003 Installation Release Notes for updated information regarding upgrading both the site server and the clients. You can find these release notes on the SMS 2003 product CD, but I recommend checking the SMS Web site frequently for the most current version of the release notes. Once the product CD is manufactured, it can't easily be refreshed with newer information. However, the release notes are maintained on the SMS Web site for download so that they can be updated and so that you can have access to the most current information.
