Refer to the following recommendations when you create policies:
For recovery purposes, perform a farm-level backup of SharePoint Server.
Exclude the Index database from incremental backups in this policy (in Table: NetBackup policy examples for SharePoint Server 2003, see Policy A-1). Or exclude the Index database from both the full and the incremental backups and instead back up that database in a separate policy (in Table: NetBackup policy examples for SharePoint Server 2003, Policy A-2).
Do not enable the option on the policy attributes page. The purpose of this policy is to create an image that contains the entire SharePoint installation. If you select on this policy, NetBackup backs up only SQL objects in the farm.
To fully protect SharePoint Server, create an MS-Windows policy. This policy should include the file system where SharePoint Web parts can be installed and System State directive (Shadow Copy Components). However, exclude databases from the MS-Windows policy; they are included in the SharePoint policy backup. A backup of the System State protects the IIS metadata. (In Table: NetBackup policy examples for SharePoint Server 2003, see Policy B.)
To restore individual items using Granular Recovery Technology (GRT), create a policy for each individual portal. Enable the option. (In Table: NetBackup policy examples for SharePoint Server 2003, see Policy C.)
Table: NetBackup policy examples for SharePoint Server 2003 describes the policies you can create to back up SharePoint Server 2003.
