This section describes the concept of a true image restore.
Table: Backup record sample shows the contents of a directory (folder) during a series of backups that were performed between December 1, 2003 (12/01/2003) and December 4, 2003 (12/04/2003).
Table: Backup record sample
NetBackup restores the files based on the type of restore you select. For example:
If you select , NetBackup restores all files and subdirectories that were backed up from 12/01/2003 (last full backup) through 12/04/2003.
file1 file2
folderA\fileA
folderB\fileB
file3
folderC\fileC
file4
If you select , NetBackup restores only the items that existed at the time of the incremental backup on 12/04/2003.
file1 file2 file4
NetBackup does not restore any item that was deleted before the 12/04/2003 incremental backup.
The restored directory
does not include directoryA
and
directoryC
, even though they were
backed up on 12/04/2003 with a user-directed backup. NetBackup did
not restore these items because they did not exist at the time of
the incremental backup (the reference for the true image
restore).
If you overwrite the
directory, you perform a restore. NetBackup does not delete files
currently in the directory that are not in the backup. For example,
assume that you create file5
after
the incremental backup on 12/04/2003 but before you perform the
restore. The directory would contain the following files:
file1 file2 file4 file5 (the new file that is not in any of the backups)
