Restoring from raw partition backups

Only an entire raw partition can be restored from a full backup.

To restore from a raw partition backup

  1. If necessary, specify the master server where the raw partition backups reside.

  2. Specify the source and the destination clients for the restore. They must be UNIX clients.

  3. Specify the policy type:

    • Click File > Specify NetBackup Machines and Policy Types.

    • From the Policy type for restores list, select Standard.

    • Click OK.

  4. Click File > Select Files and Folders to Restore > from Raw Partition Backup.

  5. In the All Folders pane, expand the view to see the entire path to the device file directory. For example:

    /devices/sbus@1,f8000000/esp@0,800000/

  6. In the Contents pane, select the device file.

  7. Preview a list of the media that is required for restore:

    Click Actions > Preview Media.

    If the backup images required to restore the data are on disk storage units rather than removable media such as tape, no media appears.

    Click OK to close the dialog box.

  8. Click Actions > Start Restore of Marked Files.

  9. In the Restore Marked Files dialog box, select from the following options to meet the requirements for the restore:

    Select from the following restore options:

    The overwrite option is ignored during raw partition restores since the partition is always overwritten.

    Job Priority

    You can change the priority of this restore by clicking Override default priority, and then set a priority number.

    The default is 90000. The available range is 0 to 99999.

  10. Click Start Restore.

    A dialog box indicates that the restore has started and asks if you want to view the progress of the operation. Click Yes.

    The restore may take a few minutes to complete. After you start a restore operation, you can close Backup, Archive, and Restore and perform other tasks on your computer. NetBackup continues the restore operation in the background.
