About Restoring from a Windows disk image backup

A disk image backup is a server-directed, full backup of a Windows system logical disk drive (such as the D drive). The backup is done on a bit-by-bit basis instead of a file and a directory (folder) basis.

A Windows disk image backup can be restored to its original drive or to a different drive.

When you restore from a Windows disk image backup, the entire disk image is restored. As a result, all previous data on the destination drive is overwritten.

To restore individual files or directories, first redirect the restore to a different disk of the same size. Then copy the individual items to the original disk.
