Selecting Restore Options

After you select a restore destination, select the appropriate restore options for the current restore operation.

Choose from the following restore options:

Restore without access control attributes (Windows clients only)

By default, files are restored with the same access control attributes that existed at the time of their backup.

On Windows systems, be aware of the following if the access control attributes of a file have changed since the backup:

  • A user that was granted access to the file after the backup does not have access to the file after the restore.

  • A user with previous access to the backed up file retains access to the file after the restore.

Select this option to restore files without the original access control attributes.

This option is available only when the following conditions exist:

  • You are logged on as the system administrator.

  • The operating system of the client computer is Windows Server 2003/XP, Windows Server 2008/Vista, or Windows Server 2008 R2/Windows 7.

  • NetBackup server software is installed on the computer where the client software is running.

  • The NetBackup master server, media server, and client are all at the same release level (software version).

Overwrite existing files

By default, this option is not selected to avoid overwriting a current file.

Select this option to replace a file with the same name in the destination directory with the file you want to restore.

Restore the file using a temporary file name

Select this option to prevent overwriting a file with the same name in the destination folder.

This option is available only when the restore request is performed from the same computer where the files were backed up.

Note:

Files from Backup Exec images cannot be restored with temporary file names.

When you select this option, NetBackup creates a new temporary file name with the convention filenameNBxxxxxx.TMP, and is described as follows:

  • The filename is the original file name.

  • The NB indicates that NetBackup renamed the file.

  • The ddhhmm indicates the date and time of the backup image from the restored file.

If you select this option and choose to restore a folder, only the folder contents are restored with temporary file names. The folder itself is not restored with a temporary name.

Do not restore the file

By default, this option is selected to prevent the restore operation from overwriting a file with the same name in the destination folder.

For example, if your destination choice is set to Restore everything to its original location, marked files with the same names are not restored.

If you deselect this option and your destination choice is set to Restore everything to its original location, files in the destination folder with the same names are overwritten.

To avoid overwriting current files, you must do one of the following:

  • Select Restore the file using a temporary file name.

  • Select a different restore destination.
