About virtual hard disk (VHD) file backups

For Windows 2008 R2 clients and Windows 7 clients, you can back up any VHD files that you may have created. No special method is required to back up VHD files.

In the NetBackup, Archive, and Restore interface, a VHD file looks the same as a physical hard disk only if it has been mounted manually. For example, test.vhd resides on drive C and is mounted as drive E.

In this example, assume that you select both drive C and drive E for backup. To prevent a duplicate backup, the drive C backup excludes the test.vhd file since drive E is also selected for backup.

If you select only drive C for backup, the test.vhd file is included since it resides on that drive.
