Instant recovery wizard screen

Use this screen to choose the Instant Recovery feature. With this feature, NetBackup retains the snapshot on disk, so that a rapid recovery can be performed from the snapshot.

Select from the following options:

Would you like the policy to retain Instant Recovery snapshots

Click Yes for the snapshots that can be restored rapidly from disk with the Instant Recovery feature.

If you chose NAS (Network Attached Storage) file system on the Asset Type screen, the instant recovery feature is required.

How many snapshots do you want to retain?

Use the up or down arrow to select the number of snapshots to keep. When that number is reached, the next snapshot causes the oldest to be deleted. If the number of mirrors configured for the snapshots is less than this value, the number of mirrors determines how many snapshots are kept.

As more snapshots are retained, more data becomes available for rapid recovery from disk (as well as more disk space that the snapshots consume). The best setting depends on how often the primary file system changes, and the number of snapshots being created (how often the policy is activated).

This option is one of two for determining when Instant Recovery snapshots are deleted. The other option is backup retention level, which is set in the Host Properties > Master Server Properties dialog box.

Refer to the NetBackup Snapshot Client Administrator's Guide for more information on the backup retention period for the Instant Recovery feature.

Would you like the policy to also create a copy of the data on a Storage Unit?

Click Yes to back up the snapshot to a storage unit, such as tape. The snapshot is also retained on disk for rapid recovery.
