Backup Type wizard screen

Specify the type of backup:

Full Backup

Select Full Backup to back up all the files that are specified in the backup selections list for the policy. The full backup backs up all eligible files, regardless of when they were last modified or backed up.

Incremental Backup

An incremental backup can be one of two types. Select one of the following types:

  • Differential

Differential incremental backups back up all files that are specified in the backup selections list for the policy that changed since the last successful incremental or full backup.

All files are backed up if no previous backup has been performed. These backups occur automatically according to the schedule criteria.

A complete restore from a differential incremental backup requires the last full backup, the last cumulative incremental, and all differential incrementals that have occurred since the last full backup.

  • Cumulative

Cumulative incremental backups back up all the files that are specified in the backup selections list that changed since the last successful full backup.

All files are backed up if no previous backup has been performed. These backups occur automatically according to the schedule criteria.

A complete restore from a cumulative incremental backup requires the last full backup and the last cumulative incremental.

User Backup

Select User Backup to initiate a user backup through the client interface (Backup, Archive, and Restore interface). In a user backup, the user can specify which files are to be backed up.

Users can start backups only during the times that the policy specifies.

The User Backup type does not apply to online, hot catalog backups.
