About device discovery in the Device Configuration Wizard

The Device Configuration Wizard uses device discovery to add, configure, and update devices automatically.

If the devices are fully serialized, the wizard adds them to the NetBackup configuration and configures the relationships between them. The wizard changes the device configuration as needed on all hosts on which device discovery is requested.

If the devices are not fully serialized, you can drag and drop drives onto their robots to configure the relationships between them.

NetBackup can be configured to run an automated form of device discovery during ltid startup (which is the default behavior for Windows). Automated discovery detects differences between the actual device configuration and the device configuration that is defined in the EMM database. NetBackup then can reconcile those differences.

NetBackup discovers tape storage devices and configures them automatically on all supported operating system server platforms (except NetWare servers) and supported peripherals.
