Manually installing Download Manager

If you use Internet Explorer and visit a Microsoft download Web site that supports Microsoft Download Manager, the Download Manager should install automatically. Depending on your Internet security settings, you may be asked to install the Download Manager ActiveX control. If prompted to do so, choose to install the ActiveX control.

The installation of Microsoft Download Manager requires administrative access to your computer, which is normally provided by your IT department. You may also be asked to close all open browser windows during the installation.

If you have been unable to automatically install the Microsoft Download Manager or you use Mozilla Firefox, you can manually install the application.

To manually install the Download Manager:

1.      On the Microsoft download Web site, follow the instructions to download the Download Manager and click the download link. A dialog box opens prompting for a location to save the installation file (MSDownloadManager.msi).

2.      Save the installation file (for example to your desktop), and wait for it to download completely.

3.      Locate the downloaded MSDownloadManager.msi file and double-click the file. If prompted, click Run. You may be prompted to close open browser windows to continue with the installation.

4.      The Microsoft Download Manager Setup Wizard opens. Follow the steps in the wizard to install the Download Manager.
