Image with Ghost Package Parameters

The Image with Ghost package executes the Ghost executable on the managed computer.

The following table lists the Image with Ghost package parameters that must be set on when the package is assign to computers.

Parameter

Description

Image Location

This parameter defines where the image is stored as follows:

  • Images Directory: The image is stored in the LiveState\home1\images directory of the server.

This directory is writable by default.

  •  Package Depot: The image is stored in the root depot directory for the Image with Ghost package.

By default the client user does not have rights to write to this directory so images cannot be stored here unless the administrator as modified the permissions on this directory.

Image file name

The name of the image file.

Command file name

A text file with the Ghost command line to execute Ghost. This lets you use options other than those available within  Symantec Image Delivery. The text file must be in the following location on the server:

//config/sw/%SWID%/cmd

where %SWID% is the package ID. The package ID is different for each language.

If this parameter is not empty then the remaining parameters are not displayed.

Image Action

This parameter lets you set the option of restoring an image file or creating an image file. The options are as follows:

  • Create Image: Creates an image file of a computer

  • Restore Image: Restores an image to a computer

Note: Restoring an image is a data destructive operation.

Disk/Partition for Action

The disk and partitions that are to be included in the image file creation, or overwritten in a restore operation. Each of the following options creates an image of, or restores to, the disk or partitions as described:

  • Disk 1, All partitions: All partitions on the first disk

  • Disk 1, Partition 1: The first partition on the first disk

  •  Disk 2, All partitions: All partitions on the second disk

  • Disk 2, Partition 1: The first partition on the second disk

Resize Partitions

Describes the options you can set to resize the partitions on the disk during a restore operation. The options are as follows:

  • Yes: The partitions are resized using the remaining free space on the disk in proportion to the original partitions

  • No: None of the partitions are resized

  • First Partition resize: The first partition is resized using the remaining free space on the disk.

  • 1. Part 60% 2. Part 40%: The first partition is resized with 60% of the remaining free space on the disk and the second partition is resized with 40% of the remaining free space on the disk.

  • Resize 2.Part to max drivespace: The second partition on the disk is resized using the remaining free space on the disk.

Direct drive access

This parameter lets you disable direct IDE or SCSI access. This can assist when troubleshooting IDE or SCSI operations. The options are as follows:

  • Enable: Both direct IDE and direct SCSI access are enabled.

  • Disable direct IDE access: Direct IDE access support for IDE hard disk operations is disabled.

  • Disable direct SCSI access: Direct ASPI/SCSI access support for SCSI hard disk operations is disabled.

File Size for splitting

This parameter splits the image file into MB spans during an image create operation. The options for this are as follows:

  • 650: Splits the image file into spans no greater than 650 MB

  • 2048: Splits the image file into spans no greater than 2048 MB

Compression Type

This parameter sets the level of compression when saving a disk or partition to an image file. The greater the compression, the slower the process, as follows:

  • -z1: Low compression (fast)

  • -z2: High compression (medium)

  • -z3 through -z9: Higher compression (slower)

Sector by Sector Imaging

This parameter lets you perform a sector-by-sector copy of all partitions. By default, when copying a partition from a disk to an image file, Symantec Ghost examines the source partition and decides whether to copy just the files and directory structure, or to do a sector-by-sector copy. If it understands the internal format of the partition, it defaults to copying the files and directory structure. However, if a disk has been set up with special hidden security files that are in specific positions on the partition, the only way to reproduce them accurately on the target partition is through a sector-by-sector copy. The options are as follows:

  • no: Symantec Ghost copies the files and directory structure only

  • yes: Symantec Ghost performs a sector-by-sector copy of all partitions

Defrag file prior to image capture

This parameter sets the option of whether to defragment the disk or partition before the image file is created.

Additional Parameters

This parameter lets you add extra command-line parameters.
