There are several main stages to configuring File System Archiving:
On NTFS file servers, installing the Enterprise Vault FSA Agent on each file server on which you want to leave placeholder shortcuts, implement File Blocking, or obtain data for FSA Reporting. The FSA Agent provides the services required by these features.
Archiving of NetApp Filers and EMC Celerra devices is configured differently: The FSA Agent services do not run on the file server; but on the Enterprise Vault computer or another Windows server.
Using the Enterprise Vault Administration Console to configure the file server, volume polices and, if required, folder policies.
Defining, on the volumes that you want to be processed, an archive point in each folder that you want to be associated with a new archive. Files from that folder and all its subfolders are stored in the same archive.
