Minimum age

Note:

This setting is only applicable to Outlook Add-In versions prior to Enterprise Vault 8.0.

Description

The Outlook Add-In copies items from the user's Outlook .OST file to the Vault Cache before the items are due to be archived. The process is known as preemptive caching. Preemptive caching takes place on the user's computer. It reduces the number of items that need to be downloaded from the mailbox archive to the Vault Cache when the two are synchronized.

The Outlook Add-In uses the Minimum age setting to calculate the age at which to preemptively cache large items, if either of the following applies:

  • You uncheck the Never archive items younger than setting in the mailbox policy.

  • You change the default value of Minimum age.

Otherwise the Outlook Add-In uses the Never archive items younger than setting in the mailbox policy as the minimum age for preemptive caching of large items.

The settings Large items size and Large items size in KB determine the size threshold.

See Large items size.

When you use an archiving strategy that includes quotas, it is difficult to predict the age at which items are archived. It is then usually advantageous to preemptively cache items as soon as possible. Enterprise Vault therefore uses 0 days as the age at which to perform preemptive caching of large items if both of the following are true:

  • The mailbox policy uses an archiving strategy that is based on quota or age and quota.

  • You do not change the Minimum age setting from its default value.

Supported values

  • An integer. The default value is 2 . Use Minimum Age Units to specify the units, which may be days, weeks (default), months, or years.
