Volume Policy Properties: Shortcuts

When Enterprise Vault archives from a file server it can leave behind shortcuts to the files that have been archived. The archiving rules determine when a shortcut is created.

Select the type of shortcut you want to leave:

Delete archived file when placeholder is deleted. Select this option to make Enterprise Vault delete archived files when their corresponding placeholders are deleted. For this setting to take effect with NTFS and NetApp file servers, Delete archived file must be selected on the Delete Placeholder tab in the properties of the file server.

Note:

For NTFS file servers, the Delete archived file when placeholder is deleted setting is ignored if pass-through recall is enabled. For EMC Celerra file servers, do not use this setting if you configure Celerra pass-through, as the combination can lead to data loss.

Delete placeholders for items that have been deleted from archives. Select this option to make Enterprise Vault delete placeholder files when their corresponding archived files are deleted.

Deletion and recall of placeholders requires the appropriate permissions on the file server volume.

Note:

If you choose Delete archived file when placeholder is deleted, you may want to define safety folders. Safety folders enable you to have duplicate placeholders, temporarily, and to delete one without the archived item being deleted. This option is useful when a user has deleted a file accidentally: you can restore files temporarily from backups so that the user can find the file. If you restore the temporary files to a safety folder, the user can delete temporary placeholders without also deleting the corresponding archived items. To define safety folders, go to the Delete Placeholder tab in the properties of the file server.
