Setting Identification Computer Properties

You can type a minimum of three and a maximum of eight characters with the following limitations:

Valid Characters                 Invalid Characters
Lower case letters              Capital letters
Numbers                            Special characters
Leading zeros                     Spaces

If this is a Cooperative Mode computer with no NIC and is intended to be used solely as a dial-up mobile computer, you can type any 12 digits (for example, 111111111111) in the Hardware address field.

You can find the hardware address of a NIC in one of the following ways:

1. Find the address printed on the NIC.

2. Run the installation and diagnostic software of the board manufacturer.

3. For a computer whose NIC has a boot PROM, check the screen output on the computer when the boot PROM attempts to connect to the CCM Server.

Define the Gateway Address only if the computer is connected to one of a multiple number of subnets. The CCM server must have this information in order to find computers on multiple subnets in a BOOTP environment. It is not necessary to enter a Gateway Address for dial-up mobile computers.

The network type default is the network type that you specified for anticipated computers during the CCM server setup. Although the CCM server is set up to accept computers of one network type by default, you can add computers of a different network type.

To set the Identification properties:

Select <All Computers>.
Select the computers in the Result pane, or select a computer group in the Scope pane.
Right-click the selected computers, or the computer group name
Click Computer Properties.

Once set, you cannot change the computer ID, the Cooperative Mode check box, or the Repository Folder location of a computer.
