Set MMC Console Mode Options

A Server Administrator, when creating an .msc file, can assign access options that allow or prevent other CCM Administrators to further customize the console.

To set MMC Console mode options:

  1. Choose Console > Options.

If more than one tab displays, click the Console tab.

  1. In the Console mode drop-down box, click the mode that fits your specific administrative and security needs.

Console Mode

Administrator Access

Author Mode

Access to all MMC functionality, including the ability to add or remove snap-ins, create new windows, and navigate the entire CCM Command Center.

User Mode - full access

Access to all window management functionality of MMC, and full access to the CCM Command Center.

Restrictions:

  • Cannot add or remove snap-ins

  • Cannot change .msc file options.

  • Changes that do not affect snap-in relationships are saved automatically.

User Mode - limited access, multiple windows

Restrictions:

  • Cannot open new windows

  • Cannot access areas of the console that were not visible when the .msc file was saved.

  • All restrictions in place on full-access user mode also apply.

  • Multiple child windows are allowed, but the administrator cannot close them

User Mode - limited access, single window

Restrictions:

  • All restrictions in place for multiple window limited-access user mode apply,

  • There is only a single window, so the controls for working with multiple windows are not present.

  1. Select the Do not save changes to this console check box to restrict users from making changes to the custom console.

  2. Click OK.

  3. In the Console menu, click Save As to save a version of the .msc file with these settings.

You can deliver the saved customized .msc file to the CCM Administrators for their limited use.
