Disaster recovery of SharePoint Portal Server 2001

Because SharePoint Portal Server uses Windows 2000 security for authentication, disaster recovery of a SharePoint Portal Server cannot be separated from the disaster recovery of Windows 2000.

You must recover the Windows 2000 server first. After recovery of the Windows 2000 server is complete (after the last reboot), the SharePoint Portal Server software is installed but is not functional. You must remove SharePoint Portal Server and then reinstall it before the SharePoint data can be restored.

Always log on to the Windows 2000 server using the Administrator account (or an Administrator equivalent) during disaster recovery.

You cannot completely recover a SharePoint Portal Server database using backups of individual workspaces. You must use a backup of the SharePoint Portal Server database to complete the disaster recovery.
